I remember learning about this in a psych class. Since that was a while ago (I should really retake those classes) I'll have to hit the internet to answer your question.

Genes found on either the X or Y chrosome contribute to one's appearance (sex-linked). "Sex-linked traits would be considered traits like sickle cell anemia and color blindness. They are said to be linked because more males (XY) develop these triats than females (XX).
